Winners of the Documental Panama Fund announced at IFF Panama 2019
During the IFF Panama 2019, Gente TVN Media and the Alberto Motta Foundation revealed the winners of the third edition of the Documental Panama Fund, a $100 thousand grant to cover production and distribution costs of five documentary films. TVN Media’s CEO Luis Mouynes; the Executive Director of the Alberto Motta Foundation, Marta Sánchez; and the Executive Director of IFF Panama 2019, attended the event.
The five selected projects were Carlos Revelo’s El Prospecto, Javier Lee de la Guardia’s Los Niños sin Batería, Carolina Borrero’s Los Cuentos del Bosque, Ana Elena Tejera’s Negre Macha, and Mario Pineda Martínez’s Ur Bipi: El Primer Cayuco.
These documentaries have become part of the Panamanian yearly film diet. In that regard, Mouynes confirmed, “more than half a million people have watched the films already.” They explore cultural, environmental and other social interest stories. Sánchez added, “for the third year in a row we have received very interesting projects that exalt and promote positive aspects of our country”.
Renowned Panamanian journalist, Isaías Cedeño, announced that these documentaries will be screened in TVN’s prime time and website, Cable Onda’s Video On Demand (VOD) Platform, and in Copa Airlines flights.
Pituka Ortega extended her congratulations to TVN Media and the Alberto Motta Foundation for supporting the growth of Panamanian documentalists and filmmakers. She said,”these projects will strengthen the film industry in Panama. Here’s to 100 more editions of the fund”.
