Su Mirada (Her Vision)

Su Mirada seeks to elevate the participation of women directors in the film industry of Central
America and the Caribbean, through a fund that supports their works.

Mission:

Su Mirada seeks to balance  the film industry of Central America and the Caribbean through a
cash fund that supports female directors.

The contest looks to showcase  the female optic in feature length films of diverse genre which
include fiction, documentary, animation, hybrid or experimental cinema.  Works must contain
subject matter related to gender, racism, sexism, discrimination and human rights.

Specifics:

Areas that will receive support are those of development and post production.

  • Only feature length films are accepted.
  • Genres may include documentary, fiction, animation, hybrid or experimental.
  • The works will be evaluated by three international female jurors of ample experience in film.
  • The contest applies to women who are citizens by birth or naturalized from the following countries:
  • Honduras
  • Guatemala
  • El Salvador
  • Belice
  • República Dominicana
  • Puerto Rico
  • Cuba
  • Trinidad y Tobago
  • Jamaica
  • Haití
  • Martinica
  • Guadalupe
  • Barbados
  • Aruba

Requirements for projects in development
(submit in Spanish and English):
  • Participant must be over 25 years old.
  • Life biography (250 words)
  • Professional biography
  • Personal Identity Document
  • Copyright registration certificate of the idea
  • Brief synopsis (100 words)
  • 10-15 page treatment
  • Intention letter
  • Work plan
  • Presentation must be delivered in digital PDF format.
Terms and Conditions:
  • Women from the age of 25 are eligible to participate in the development section. Participants must have directed at least one short film as a director.
  • Development award is USD 5,000.00.
  • The filmmaker who obtains the development fund has 18 months to complete the script and must give proof to the IFF Panama Foundation with the certificate of registration in the Copyright Department of her country and a copy of the script.
  • If the script is not finished within 18 months, the cash prize must be returned, in its entirety, to the IFF Panama Foundation.
Requirements for projects in post production
(submit in Spanish and English):
  • Registered Project
  • Identity document of the director
  • Final cut sent in digital file HD 1920 x 1080 pixels
  • Data sheet
  • Director’s life Biography (250 words)
  • Professional biography of the director
  • Brief biography of technical team (producer, cinematographer, sound engineer, editor)
  • Plan of use of requested funds
  • Dissemination plan of the work (festival tour, distribution, digital platforms).
Terms and Conditions:
  • The Latin American premiere of the winning work must be held at the Panama International Film Festival, except for other prior commitments and this is subject to discussion with the Foundation.
  • Post production award is 10,000 USD.
  • The work must be subtitled in English or Spanish if necessary.
  • Funds that obtain the post-production prize may not compete in the Primera Mirada works in progress competition.
  • FIP reserves the rights - this is free and not exclusive - to transmit, disseminate and promote the film in any medium or format once it has finished its festival tour and its commercial release period. FIP will seek to promote and disseminate, as widely as possible, all the films supported by Su Mirada.
