Katayoon Shahabi, born in Tehran and doctor of French literature, began her work in 1982 as a film promoter at "Farabi Cinema Foundation" (FCF), presenting Iranian cinema to the world. In 1994, she helped launch Cima Media International (CMI) before establishing her own company, Sheherazad Media International (SMI), the most important private company active in worldwide distribution of features, documentation and co-production with foreign companies in 2001. She has produced numerous documentaries, has presented films of acclaimed directors, and has several awards for his country.
In 2012, she also launched his French-based company, NOORI PICTURES, with which "Tales" by Rakhshan Banietemad and "Wednesday, May 9" by Vahid Jalilvand were awarded in Venice and "Nahid" by Ida Panahandeh in Un Certain Regard in 2014 and 2015, respectively; "Inversion" by Behnam Behzadi in Un Certain Regard 2016 and "No Date, No Signature" that received 2 awards in Venice 2017.
Katayoon was a member of the jury for the most part, fourteen times member of international film festivals such as Mannheim-Heidelberg, International Documentary Film Festival of Amsterdam (IDFA), Milan Film Festival, FIPA, Geneva Film Festival, Film Festival of San Sebastián (as President). Competition section of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.
