Joel del Río is a journalist and writer. Since 1994 he has worked as a film critic for publications such as Juventud Rebelde, the magazine “Cine Cubano”, and the website La Jiribilla, among others. His work has been published in magazines from Spain, Colombia, Brasil, Mexico, Japan and the UK. He is a journalist for ICAIC, and a professor of workshops about film genre at the EICTV Film School in Cuba. He also teaches at FAMCA School of Media and Audiovisual Communication. He has published the books Latitudes del margen (2004), co-written with Caridad Cumaná, Los cien caminos del cine cubano (2009) co-written with Marta Díaz, Melodrama, Tragedia y Euforia: De Griffith a Von Trier (2012), El cine según García Márquez (2013) and La edad de las ilusiones: el cine de Fernando Pérez (2016).
