He later moved to Paris to continue his studies in Film Direction at the Conservatoirse Libre du Cinéma Francais. He then went on to study scripwriting in Rome at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografía. Upon his return to Guatemala, he founded his own production  company: La Casa de Producción. This is where he produced his first shorts and later his feature debut, Ixcanul. With this film he won the Silver Bear at Berlinale in 2015 and over 60 award in international film festivals. In 2016 he created a film de auteur distribution department and another one for artistic representation withing his production company, La Casa de Producción. Industry companies did not exist previously in Guatemala, and so Jayro was able to secure contracta in Hollywood films for the main actress in Ixcanul, María Mercedes Coroy, jumpstarting her own acting career.
