Carlos A. Gutiérrez is the co-founder and executive director of Cinema Tropical, the non-profit organization based in New York, created in 2001, and a leader in the promotion of Latin American cinema in the United States. As a guest curator, he has presented various film cycles at various cultural institutions including The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Guggenheim Museum, BAMcinématek, the Film Society of Lincoln Center, and Anthology Film Archives. Gutiérrez was a co-curator of the 53rd Robert Flaherty Film Seminar, and is co-director of the Tucson Cine Mexico festival in Arizona. He also works as an editor of BOMB Magazine, and has participated as a member of the jury and panelists for several festivals and film funds including the ones of Morelia, Margaret Mead, Seattle, SANFIC, DocsMX, the Documentary Film Fund of Sundance, Tribeca Film Institute Fund for Latin America and the Gucci Ambulante Scholarship.
