Shoplifters

Synopsis: 
After one of their shoplifting sessions, Osamu and his son come across a little girl in the freezing cold. At first reluctant to shelter the girl, Osamu’s wife agrees to take care of her after learning of the hardships she faces. Although the family is poor, barely making enough money to survive through petty crime, they seem to live happily together until an unforeseen incident reveals hidden secrets, testing the bonds that unite them…

Kore-eda Hirokazu

Hirokazu Kore-eda was born in Tokyo, Japan. He studied literature at Waseda University.
His features include Maborosi (1995), winner of the OCIC prize and the Golden Osella for best director at the Venice Film Festival; After Life (1998), Distance (2001), Nobody Knows (2004); I Wish (2011), winner of Best Screenplay at San Sebastian; Like Father Like Son (2013), awarded the Jury Prize at Cannes; and The Third Murder (2017), presented at the seventh edition of IFF Panama. Shoplifters (2018) is his latest feature.
